Forest biomass, such as chips, sawdust, bark and branches, as well as wood with no commercial outlet and trees degraded by natural disturbances, is positioning itself as a key resource for the energy transition and the sustainable circular economy. By optimizing the use of forest resources and reducing waste, it promotes the diversification of energy sources and reduces dependence on fossil fuels.
With over 3.5 million anhydrous metric tonnes (amt) of forest residues available each year, and a production of 7.7 million amt of sawmill-related products, Quebec has great potential to become a regional and global leader in the production of renewable energy and value-added products from forest biomass.
With this in mind, Quebec's Ministère des Ressources naturelles et des Forêts (MRNF) has mandated CRIBIQ to launch a call for projects on the supply and conditioning of forest biomass for bioenergy production. This initiative is designed to support innovative industrial projects exploiting local forest biomass for bioenergy production.
