CIRCULAR LIGHT BEDDING: valorization of local post-industrial residues for the development of value-added bedding products

The proposed research project aims to develop a new line of pet litter products by valorizing various local residues (e.g., post-industrial and bio-based materials). This initiative aligns with INTERSAND's commitment to reducing its ecological footprint by decreasing reliance on non-renewable, non-biodegradable virgin mineral resources in the production of pet litter. The project also supports the advancement of a circular economy by repurposing bio-based waste from regional industries.

The specific objectives of the proposed project include:

  1. Identifying promising feedstocks based on a defined set of criteria.
  2. Formulating and characterizing efficient cat litter recipes, focusing on parameters such as dust levels, absorption capacity, and odor control.
  3. Assessing the acceptance of developed formulations by cats to ensure suitability and user satisfaction.
  4. Studying and optimizing the pilot manufacturing process to meet the company’s technical requirements for the production of the litter.
  5. Exploring the final valorization of unused litter components, including post-use management.

This project will strengthen INTERSAND's position as a leader in absorbent product manufacturing by offering consumers and their pets innovative, eco-friendly products.
