Implementation of an intelligent classification system for crabs
The project aims to implement an innovative system for classifying crab sections using imaging technology. This system replaces the current weight-based classifier, which no longer supports the company’s growth.
The new system leverages images from an X-ray camera to assess the integrity of crab sections by counting the number of legs and verifying the presence of claws. It also determines the weight of each section. A color camera is employed to measure the color of the sections, a critical factor that determines whether the section meets criteria for the fresh market, the U.S. market, or falls into category K, where the visual appearance disqualifies it from traditional markets.
These upgrades will enable full utilization of available crab for the fresh market. By modifying the processing workflow with vision systems and updating the control units for the cookers, the company will be able to operate in real time and maximize fresh crab production.
